D-H/S IONS

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

D - H /S IONS is a mixture of several disinfectants. Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidising agent which is stabilised with complex substances. Silver ions are added for long-term efficiency. Hydrogen peroxide and silver ions have a synergetic effect as a disinfectant. Silver ions have an oligodynamic effect and react as catalysts. The bactericidal effect of silver ions depends on the covalent or coordinative linking to the proteins of micro-organisms. These proteins will be inactivated or precipitated.

Due to the good efficiency of D - H /S IONS against bacteria, viruses, amoebae, germs and algae only this product is necessary in all applications of disinfectant.

Long storage time can be warranted due to the good stability of the product. The product is also stable at high ambient or water temperatures. The efficiency increases with rising temperature.

D - H /S IONS has no environmental implications. The primary component hydrogen peroxide does not contaminate waste water. Only water and oxygen are formed during its degradation process, and those are harmless by-products.

Both disinfecting components (H2O2 and silver ions) have a synergetic effect. The germicidal effect is faster and more efficient as with the individual substances.

Through the combined efficiency of the oxidation and the oligodynamic effect a so called “two phase product” has been created. In contrast to common disinfectants, D - H /S IONS destroys biofilms. This process is most important with bacteria and viruses, which have a biofilm as a protective shield. Hydrogen peroxide oxidises biofilms and silver ions can react with the proteins in micro-organisms.

PRODUCT SAFETY

The average dose of D - H /S IONS for the disinfection of drinking water is 10 mg/l. The content of silver ions in this dose is 0.005 mg/l.

Some examples of legally allowed maximum contents of silver ions in drinking water are as follows:

The World Health Organisation "WHO" recommends a maximum harmless absorption of silver ions through drinking water treatment of 180 µg/day (3 l drinking water/person/day) with the consumption of 3 liters drinking water per day and an average dose of D - H /S IONS of 10 mg/l the absorption is 15 µg of silver. This is 12 times less than the WHO recommendation.

TECHNICAL DATA

State of aggregation: Clear liquid without any characteristic odour. In dilution without taste and odour.
Density: 1.196 kg/dm³
Boiling point: 114°C at 1013 milli-bar.
Freezing point: -51°C
pH: 1.2
Foaming activity: not foaming
Forming of coatings: does not form coatings
Biological degradation: The primary substance hydrogen peroxide has no waste water implications. Its only degradation products are water and oxygen 2 H2O2  2 H2O + O2
Combustion: D - H /S IONS is non-combustible. Organic substances like wood, paper, oil, coal, cotton, wool, straw etc. must not come in contact with D - H /S IONS .
Corrosion properties: Corrosion-resisting are aluminium 99.5 % (free of iron), Cr-Ni-steal, e.g. 1.4301, 1.4401,1.4571, plastics as polypropylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride. Varnish coatings andlining materials which are used in swimming pools or storage containers for instance should be tested in pre-experiment

Surface tension: (Ring method, 20°C)

Acid value (SH): The Soxlet-Henkel (SH) acid value is the number of millilitres of 0.25 N sodium hydroxide solution required to neutralise 100 ml of solution using phenolphthalein as indicator (end point pH 8.3)

Bleaching: Bleaching shouldn’t appear at the recommended concentrations and at temperatures below 50°C.
Discoloration: Coatings and lining materials with titanium pigments, especially with new Coatings and lining materials, discoloration is possible. Precaution is necessary with white coloured coatings and lining materials. We recommend on principle to make pre-experiments on suitable surfaces if discoloration is anticipated.
Degradation: Degradation of D - H /S IONS can take place by adding sodium hydrogen sulphate (NaHSO3). The reaction is immediate and produces water and sulphate. A overdose of 10 % is safe. H2O2 + NaHSO3  H2O + NaHSO4 Example: For the reduction of 100 ml of a 1 % solution of D - H /S IONS add 8 ml of a 38 % solution of sodium hydrogen sulphate. For the reduction of 100 ml of a 2 % solution of D - H /S IONS IONS add 16 ml of a 38 % solution of sodium hydrogen sulphate.
